چکیده

Understanding the grain boundary deformation dynamics is very crucial to designing materials with stable microstructures. With this quest, behavior of coherent twin under cyclic shear loading has been studied in α-Fe using molecular simulations understand influence strain amplitude and temperature. Twin exhibited coupled migration along irreversibility character at lower temperatures gained almost perfect reversibility higher around 1500 K. TB more sliding than an increase The stress associated twins was observed fluctuate its average value. This caused by layer propagation through activity 1/6 111 = 1/12 + type edge partial dislocations on {112} plane. Complete complex were noticed presence multiple parallel nanowires. larger size nanowires a proper combination conditions rates; otherwise, it absent. offsetting found be minimal.

Role of five-fold twin boundary on the enhanced mechanical properties of fcc Fe nanowires.

The role of 5-fold twin boundary on the structural and mechanical properties of fcc Fe nanowire under tension is explored by classical molecular dynamics. Twin-stabilized fcc nanowire with various diameters (6-24 nm) are examined by tension tests at several temperatures ranging from 0.01 to 1100 K. Significant increase in the Young's modulus of the smaller nanowires is revealed to originate fro...

Transformation Reversibility in Fe-Mn-Si Shape Memory Alloy

The change of the surface relief associated with stress-induced epsilon martensite before and after the reverse transformation in an Fe-33%Mn-6%Si alloy (Msz264K) has been investigated. The permanent strain of a 2.7% tensile-strained specimen was 1.1% after the reverse transformation. In this specimen, a large part of surface relief still remained after heating to 623K (above Af). When five tra...

Hydrogen-Vacancy-Dislocation Interactions in α-Fe

Atomistic simulations of the interactions between dislocations, hydrogen atoms, and vacancies are studied to assess the viability of a recently-proposed mechanism for the formation of nanoscale voids in Fe-based steels in the presence of hydrogen. QM/MM calculations confirm EAM simulations showing that individual vacancies on the compressive side of an edge dislocation can be transported with t...

Twin nucleation in Fe-based bcc alloys—modeling and experiments

We develop an analytical expression for twin nucleation stress in bcc metal and alloys considering generalized planar fault energy and the dislocations bounding the twin nucleus. We minimize the total energy to predict the twinning stress relying only on parameters that are obtained through atomistic calculations, thus excluding the need for any empirical constants. We validate the present appr...

Twin migration in Fe-based bcc crystals: theory and experiments

We establish an overall energy expression to determine the twin migration stress in bcc metals. Twin migration succeeds twin nucleation often after a load drop, and a model to establish twin migration stress is of paramount importance. We compute the planar fault energy barriers and determine the elastic energies of twinning dislocations including the role of residual dislocations (br) and twin...
